“Phishing For Compliments” – Came the Answer !

Was it true ? Never Mind Coz it stirred the crowd to near frenzy , And The message was clear for the participants

“Never Rule out the unruly crowd”.

Sometime during her performance she erred .. Dudes started yelling “What the Phish” -2 …

A voice screeched through the crowd .. “for compliments” as if completing the statement.

Next came Miss (Oh-SO-High-On-OOmph) ‘A’ .. Even the comparer thought of this as an opportunity to again phish for some compliments from the Niftian .. I don’t know how much he succeeded ..after all we don’t have hidden camera’s on backstage(My Idea for Felicity’09 is to have a detailed backstage coverage of all things “Happening”!! Liiiiive!! ).

The ‘A’ girl was for everything ‘A’ — be it Attitude, Attires or even Ani…. (Last one I hope to be true ! Unlikely though )

Literally her dance set the crowd on Fire .. OMG People on chair shaking their Booties even more vigorously then Shakira!

Then came another who just talked .. I don’t know what inspired him to “Blah-Blah” on stage , Fortunately he was kicked out early or we would have been forced to feed on the shit-meets-gutter-kinda-crap.

Then There was a Mime … (Mind boggling-Innovative-Mass-Entertaining) performance .. The dude went all the way to the coronation … A well deserved one !

Oh! There was some sholay histrionics thrown in .. I remember being thrown off the chair for being a “Double-handed-Thakur” .. Won’t elaborate on crowds reaction much though , It could well be censored for the sake of “Healthy-Cheering-and-Leering” ….

The Number “9395676924″ — the crowd dialling it .. The Love For Ms ‘A’ .. the Support for Punjaban Ms ‘B’ .. All the way to a Ms ‘S’ …Don’t remember much about the other Alphabets though ….

But It all ended with The D(Dance) .. And I can say one thing for sure that every lad In IIIT is a great dancer … Whether he is on “HIGH” or not!

Could not remember more jigs from our group .. but I think it was an entertaining one .. if not Downright Street-Smart.

PS1 : Babu was the Best Whistler in town here … Have guts then try challenging him

PS2 : It’s best to be censored about the EMCEES … However You people provided Load’s of Funny moments to the crowd.

PS3 : The most energetic , Vibrant ,colorful ,enjoyed performance was no doubts by the crowd (Maybe after the OSO ! It was breathtaking .) !! Even the Video-man was more interested in them for a long time .

PS4 : Zombie .. Zombie .. Zombie ..eeeeeeeeeeeee …..Wow !! And All praises for Blood Brothers .. These two were my personal favorites.

PS5 : One word to define Felicity —- “Ossssum” .

PS6 : If you couldn’t get a thing been said here .. don’t try .. It just means that you were not in the “Crowd”.

1 Read Blog Request !!

Animesh has sent you a read blog request. To see what animesh wants to make you want to read sit down , get ready and scroll down the dumb list and yeah to read you would have to send 20 of your friends another irritating request so that they waste their time and add another of our totally waste and crap application.

Don’t get a clue what I am talking about .. Check www.wastebook.com .

This facebook shit is like few people hell bent on capitalising on the voyeuristic minds of the million others who can’t simply judge whether what use to them is “What Kinda Dumb Ass are you – typa request “.

My tyrist with facebook began with countless mails inviting me , and equally numbered reminders that your so an so invitation from so and so is getting expired on so and so date .. so hurry up and join the bandwagon . A few days pack I thought that It won’t harm my health if I joined (How wrong I was !!) and got listed after answering usual similar privacy invading questions (I dint know who copied orkut or facebook .. but later I came to know of another angle in this Love-triangle , Myspace , so I think its best left to the lovers to decide ).

The first thing I noticed was some 2-3 requests (hey ! It can’t be that bad) and one of them was flirtable . Lately sole aim of life had become similar to this .. and I thought its better than orkut where you have to sieve through the girls to get to few cool ones . I added it .

Wait .. actually there was a huge time gap between the time I added it and the time I started flirting .. It required me to invite my 20 others friends to flirt so that I-earn-some-bonus-points-so-that-My-status-could-change-from-Newbie-to-Flirt Agent-to-Big-daddy-Pimp–to what not … I was not sure whether these tags would help my status any way in India or would further grade me down to Man-hole m But still I thought whats the harm in trying . So, In no time I had got some 300 points (20 points-per friend invite) and I was sifting through pages like-a-matrimony display . I got few replies bit I think that getting to much virtual is not my type .. so I got fed up.

The next application was “movie taste finder” . I was laughing uncontrollably as The meter billed 2 of my friends with me as Soulmate for some 70% score .. and the worst part of it was both of them being male .

Then I thought this application thing is worthless . After some days when I again opened my account I had some 40-50 request and each required trapping my other friends and these request ranged from

1) 6 sketch me request (If I sketched I don’t know how long the sketched person could live considering my drawings always had that shock value).

2) 5 How evil are you (Very Evil .. and if you thought otherwise than take “How dumb are you ?? request “)

3) Now this is seriously funny .. What fruit are you ? (I am eager to know which of my friends are bananas )

4) Ithink Invitation (Well my teacher said that I was a thinking lad and it was way before you time-suckers thought of this shit )

5) You’re a Hotty invitation (I know dude I am but m waiting for the fairer sex to believe it )

6) How stupid are you Invitation (Are we not all on the same boat , remember tricked into these networking sites)

7) Are you Interested (Friends ! Depends on who is asking )

How fat are you (Now My relatives and all says that you are kinda shrinking like Icebergs , Hostel-effect I suppose)

9) Which singer are you ?? (I would like to believe am being Shaan but can you ???)

10) What type of heart .. ( I wouldn’t be surprised if some Organ-traders started what kind of kidneys are you )

And numerous others like perfect match, (*) Quizes , Gossip , trivia’s and what not …

PS 1: My God! Begging seems to be the flavor of the day.

PS 2: Even their server is so slow that you can literally scrap a two-or-three friends in orkut in the meantime.

PS 3: Well the main motivation for these kinda sites is that we people are shy in asking questions Directly and end up querying about all the things except that thing.

Flying Kite is Like Love , The More you let it go , The higher It takes you – Animesh

It was another january month and whole of IIIT got a new life when we found out that we have 3 consecutive holidays (Can say that we are a deprived lot when it comes to holidays .. even heard that 2-3 people went home in between ) , a rarity considering the tight schedule we have . As always it was time for looking through one’s movie collection (There’ s never ending stuff .. will someone tell me why the Writer’s strike has not led to decrease in Hollywood productions) and turning on the loud speakers to enjoy this feast of Holidays . Hey but the monday was more promising as “Kite-Flying” was being organized (And yeah not for the first time  kudos ! Maruti ).

And Finally on monday afternoon the ground was jam-packed with people jeering and jostling .So , the “Fight for the Kite” had begun . Soon the sky was filled with multicolored kites , some dancing very high and many still swirling to catch their breath to soar up. There were some Amateurs,some more trained and yet there were enthusiast who were betting on with each other as who gets the maximum kites. As the kites flew higher and higher , the shout began from cheering to bitching to “Professional Commentary” (As is Indian tradition we are the master observer and preachers in every condition and the person doing the job is less competitive as Obviously he is doing it and we aren’t )

The wind also played with players from time to time (But that was nothing to brag about , after all who can be happy by treading on same path always). Sometimes it was the direction , other times the speed that kept changing abruptly.

Whenever some kite was cut , there were enough answers to what went wrong as well as I-said-that-see-meaning-I-am-right-as-always.

And the most fun part of the event was catching the falling kites . We ran till literally the kite went either to the stadium or on the roof of some building.Overall it reminded me of my childhood days , that fun and spirit that made us special … that made us child.

PS1 : To my credit I cut 1 kite (Most of the time I was assisting our Flying-bond Satish) .

PS2 : Some situations were funny especially those where the newbies ran for the kite instead of the thread to catch it.

PS3 : Flying Kite is easy – all you need is the spirit to rise high . (Looks like I should pen down more of my quotes ).

Room No 007

What do you expect when you reach a day earlier , In the Night at 11′ pm and when even the Co-ordinator room has not been properly setup ?

Whatever ,I found out the Cordiality and welcome that was as warm as anticipated for an event of such a magnitude , And that defined the MOOD of MI’07 that well became the reminiscence of the IIT’ian spirit by the IIIT(Intelligent-IIT)’ans .

So we had the 8th registration for the event , But hey you should always carry change wherever you go , that sucking 500-1000 problem never leaves . So we had to wait and arrange for 2 separate 900 and 300. What I had was 1*500 (maybe it was 2) ,and some 4 or 5 * 100’s , ah well it was 2 – 500 notes (Don’t get me wrong but I was only carrying the notes , although I think None was mine , I suppose that’s Financial management ) . So we asked and asked and finally a rich fellow had the change for 500 , so We registered.

Phew ! So let’s see now how a IIT room looks like with 4 people in a single room , quite the usual hospitality I suppose and thats way to cheap in Mumbai where it takes a hell lot of money only to get a shit place to sleep (Well the Mumbai’s last local is at 1:30 at night otherwise majority of housing problem could be tackled with (Heaven on wheels )) .

So the room was in hostel 2 and numbered 007 quite to my liking (Do I hear numerologist crying out 2007 coincidence at back!!) , I even thought for myself as a Lucky bastard (No racism Punter) , but only the days could tell . And Lucky we were . After a night with that-guy-from-suratkal-who-couldn’t-sleep-because-of-we-3 (Had I just said guy with we 3 , well we-were-Myself-Gaurav-Sagar-if-you-dont-know ) , We found the room all for ourself from the very next day when he ran away (quite a luxury i must say given It was even heard of the MI coordinators stacking 6 guys in a room ) . He-was-some-Inter-IIT-participant-who-Overstayed.

PS 1 : I had the Bond’s room , just had to find a Bond girl (or even a Bong (Bengali babe for the Misplaced ))  .

Summar(y) Reading Assignment

“Is the 3rd sem really that good ?” – was the question in my mind. I had the worst start for I had to act like a

summariser churning out summary after summary so as to meet the deadline .Although we had been given the whole summer for the assignment but why bother if it can be done in a day. For the Ignorant , this was our

summer reading assignment forced upon us. Well It was not that bad as I already had enough practice of “Inspirational

Writing” from earlier two semester where You discuss(0%) and Take (~100%) ideas to do the stuff.

Well It is said that well begun is Half work done

Trust Me Whoever said this , was not in senses . Bring that Person and i will tell him (or her as personally I feel girls to be more Methodical right from the start ) that even after painfully completing the task (or Half of it as we were also told to read the books and not just summarise ) I was again called after 2-3 months to discuss upon the books.

Now even a blind man can tell that i have written rubbish (If he can read .. Obviously ) but my name appeared

in the “Selected List” . Now either all the others were even Better (Best in the worst ) in Writing or worse they had caught our brief collaboration with google . Whatever was the case I didnt turn up (Obviously!! right ). But I had my company and nearly everyone backed out . Quite a feat for the fear(some)full law abiding IIIT crowd . All had their valid :0 reasons and even I was attending the final rehearsal of opening ceremony of MWG-07, but thats just another tale for another blog.

So some days later we were told to report to the Almighty and explain him our reason for the snub (As if its a secret!).

But due to Busy schedule (or rather BC schedule) I(we) even missed that. Now this was the limit . We all were later rounded up in the Courtroom and we were examined – cross questioned and as expected Punished.

Our Punishment was to again Summarise a book (This time i read it but it was so boring that even a life sentence will seem like a picnic and i am serious, though that emotion is a rarity in me ) , failing which we will not be registered .

So , This Assignment taught me some golden rules

1) Its better Not To Do the book reading assignment (Trust me this is 1 case where “SATYAMEVA JAYATE” Holds )

2)Even if you have been helped by external Influences (GOOFle ) , no need to accept so.

3) Copy but make sure to never got (remember A Crime is not a Crime till you are CONVICTED ).

PS1 : I had read some books previously also but my main objection is the manner in which we are forced to read.

PS2 : Don’t take the last lesson as as an Inspiration for committing crime .

PS3 : After reading “A passage To India” – The first and foremost comment in my mind was that a ” 2 hour movie made out of 2 minute story with detailed Cinematography ” .
